Fraternity FraternitÓ Giugliano - Giugliano

The first meeting of the fraternity took place on February 17, 2006. The fraternity grew out of an invitation from and the support of Br. Pietro Codato. The group, composed of some twenty people between the ages of 30 and 60, began meeting at the school on a monthly basis. With time, the need and the desire to meet more frequently was apparent. Half of the original group were teachers at the Marist school in Giugliano. Others in the group were involved in youth ministry activities at the school. Only a few did not already know the Marist Brothers.

The fraternity meets monthly at the Institute in Giugliano. Other gatherings are held to help with various Marist solidarity activities. There is an animator and there is a treasurer. At the beginning of the year there is a program led by the animator and the Brother advisor. The group discusses proposals and topics. Also, two Brothers who help with the animation also participate.

Almost half the members of the fraternity are involved with ministry in the school, some as teachers. On the other hand, it has not been easy to participate in the province-wide meetings.

Our relationships develop in a fraternal climate based on trust. The gatherings for prayer, formation and celebration have helped us to get to know one another better. All of these have led to our commitment to works of solidarity.

The group has experienced a strong interior growth over the three years of its existence. Despite the departure of some, we have maintained a constant total number, at more or less 20 members. The fraternity chose to deepen their knowledge of St. Marcellin and of the Marist charism. This process began as a course of study and prayer on the Founder, using Sean’s writings and other materials. The study continued with the examples of the lives of the first brothers.

The fraternity was deeply involved in the experience of the Year of Spirituality, with the valuable contribution of the course on "Water of the Rock". To the prayer experiences some added experiences of service, be it to youth, the elderly or the disadvantaged.

The Bible passage that motivates us: “If the grain of wheat does not die, it produces no fruit; if it dies, it produces much fruit.”
