Fraternity FraternitÓ Cesano - Cesano Maderno

The association was born in 1981 on the initiative of Br. Giuseppe Banaudi. It was started by a group of parents at the school within an educational process, with gatherings for prayer and reflection. Eventually it turned to action, taking charge of some situations of families facing difficulties.

And so in 1985 the Gruppo Famiglia Marista Champagnat was inaugurated. With the passage of time it became more organized and came to be recognized as a group with a clear commitment in the field of solidarity. We offer assistance to families in difficulty, especially to those that have children, to accompany them in the process of normalization. The commitment of the volunteers develops in contact with the families, collaborating with the school and in the management of the "L´Albero" Center, which has a monthly distribution of food and medicine, with the support of the local food and pharmaceutical banks.

Every year on the last Saturday of November we organize the Gruppo Famiglia Marista Festival at the middle school, with prizes and a small market. Its purpose is to commit students and parents to raising the necessary funds to help needy families.

The most recent commitment has been that to the “L´Albero” Center, which opened in the autumn of 2001. The activity concentrates on offering a creative, diverse and educational opportunity to families who, for various reasons, cannot offer significant assistance, time and resources to their children. The service is aimed at boys and girls in the primary school (6-10 year- olds). The hours are from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning in October and lasting through May.

The group meets in the Brothers’ community house every second Wednesday of the month. Each meeting begins with a moment of prayer and reflection. Then there is an organizing and practical phase. The presence of the Brothers is essential and much desired. A Brother is the group’s spiritual advisor.

The members of the fraternity, according to their own jobs and professions, make themselves available to collaborate in the various Marist ministries, giving the privileged place to the social and charitable dimension. Likewise they offer full cooperation in other Marist initiatives, for example, attending provincial meetings. Various members of the group work in the parish environment as catechists, educators or aides.

A decisive moment of the life of our fraternity was the birth of the  “L´Albero” Center. In our more than 25 years of existence we’ve also experienced moments of crisis, due mainly to conflicting interests and expectations. But these have been overcome and were actually opportunities for growth.

The Biblical passage we identify with: “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me" (Mt. 25:40).
