Fraternity Hermitage - Madrid

The fraternity was born in September 2002.  Most of its members came from the Marist Christian Communities, attached to educational establishments of the former Province Iberica

The members of the fraternity are:  Oscar and Beatriz with their children, David and Pablo,  Almudena and Manuel Angel, with their son Jorge, Gabriel with her son Leonardo,  Lucila with her daughter Ana Maria, and Gloria with her daughter Silvia.  The co-ordinator of the fraternity is Gabriel. Up to now, we do not have a Brother accompanier.

Given the great number of births, we find ourselves mainly in the houses of members of the fraternity and, from time to time, in the community of Garcia Noblejas.  We have three meetings a month, lasting two hours each time.

As the group is small, at the beginning of the year we divide among ourselves the various responsibilities such as representation within the Animation Team, liaison bureau with the Brothers, and people charged with writing  articles for `Las Tres Violetas’.  As for activities, we organize, according to the year, the celebrations for different liturgical seasons (Advent, Lent and Pentecost), meetings with the aged Brothers at La Roca, participation in the meetings of the Marist Family, prayers with the community of Garcia Noblejas and Fuenlabrada, special days for the opening and closing of the academic year.

Our meetings begin generally with a time of prayer, then we take a theme among those which have been proposed by the Province or we tell our life stories.  Each time, Lucila links up via Skype, thus assuring a virtual but nonetheless real presence.

We have been very involved with the works of Rumania.  Each member continues to give a monthly contribution to support this work.  We have also been very involved with `Ciudad Joven`.  Two of the members of the frat. teach in the establishments of Villalba and Chamberi respectively.

There have been important events which have marked the group, such as the union of the first members of the fraternity with the University Community of Emmaus (5 people).  This has resulted in a fine thrust in the progress of the fraternity.  We also signal special moments of the life of the members, such as marriages, baptisms, deaths of members of our families… which allows us to live these situations from an aspect of faith and hope in the Lord.

We have also faced difficulties, mainly because of departures. At these moments in the life of the community, it seems to waver.  Then, and from another point of view, the uncertain nature of the time which preceded the union of two groups.  Although this union suggested great hope, doubts arose as to its viability and the compatibility of people.  Among the difficulties, let us mention also the moment of  returning after summer, to adapt to new family situations.
