Fraternity Padre Luiz Darós - São Paulo

On 15 May 1999, following the invitation of Br. Claudio Girardi, 19 persons  met in the Marist school « Nossa Senhora da Glória », São Paulo, and listened to the appeal to walk more intimately in following Jesus, according to the spirituality of Saint Marcellin Champagnat. The name « Padre Luiz Darós » was a unanimous decision since it was he who sowed the seed of our union. The choice of someone living to be our patron and animator, could not have been more successful: he was a Marist at heart.

Each family of the members of the Fraternity offers their house for the monthly gatherings. The children are integrated into the meeting: they play, share and pray. We have chosen a « kit » for each member of the Frat: Bible, Project of Life, Fraternities Manuel and Marist Calendar, material that everyone has to bring with him to all meetings.

Every two years, we choose, in common accord, a co-ordinator, secretary and treasurer (man or woman). Every month, during the meeting, the treasurer collects from each family what has been decided, in order to pay for our little celebrations, eventual travel, and other materials.

The fraternity works essentially in four dimensions. The human dimension involves the daily life of the members. The faith dimension is inspired by the word of the Bible: « Have one mind and one spirit ». The ecclesial dimension embraces the Church, the Province and the Institute. And the Marist dimension concerns the spirituality of Champagnat, the « idol » of the children. Topics discussed are: Champagnat, Mary, the Bible, the Mass, sacraments, saints, vocations…

Apart from these, there are specialised themes: evaluation, annual programming, Marial celebrations, anniversary of the Fraternity, Champagnat Day, Advent, Christmas Novena and birthdays of members of the Frat.

The Fraternity is composed of 18 members: five children, 11 women and seven men. Education dominates the professions: three teachers, a pedagogue, a physio-therapist, a social worker, a supervisor, a librarian, a judge, a financial analyst, an economist and seven students.

At the beginning, the members had many questions about the viability of a common apostolate. As there is a great difference in the times available to each family, it was decided that the apostolate would be directed to the family and profession of each.
