Fraternity Marcelino Champagnat - Ciudad de México

This fraternity is composed of former Brothers and began in 1997, at the CUM (Centro Universitario México), the leader being Br. Miguel López, with the participation of 40 companions. It was Br. Basilio who organized this first assembly. At the present time we are about 30 members in Mexico City, 10 in Queretaro, 8 in Guadalajara, 10 in Morelia and neighboring cities. Our wish is to stay connected with the former Brothers who are interested in continuing to live Marist spirituality and wish to cooperate more in building the Kingdom.

We are convinced that all the formation we received must not be lost, but we should channel it for spiritual growth and for the development of different apostolates.   Some of the members of the fraternity work in schools founded by themselves, and they continue being and working as Marists. Others, as professionals, married and with children, are considering the idea of forming a greater Marist community, as Fr. Champagnat desired.

The advisor is Br. Enrique Ruiz, and the coordinating team is formed of Reynaldo Manero, Sergio Nájera, Jorge Guzmán, José Álvarez, Miguel García Olvera, and Daniel Hernández Landa. Br. Angel Goñi attends the semiannual meetings.

The fraternity of former Brothers has met three times at the national level. These were all held in Querétaro, in the old mill of San Antonio and in San Javier, both having been houses of formation for juniors and scholastics.

In attendance at these meetings have been former Brothers from Mexico City, Pachuca, Toluca, Querétaro, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nuevo León, Aguascalientes, Yucatán, and even from the USA. We number about 130 to 140, from different generations, who are united in the same spirit and prayer, conserving the charism of Champagnat. We send out an invitation to form more groups according to your location. We are sowing the idea so we can reap the harvest in a short time. Every week we send out communications via e-mail.In addition we have occasional meetings with the Juan Pablo II Fraternity, of Instituto México and with the Stella Maris Fraternity, from Querétaro.
