Fraternity San Marcelino Champagnat - Rancagua

This fraternity started as a prayer group in the Instituto O’Higgins in Rancagua in  1980, having as guide Brother  Ángel Gutiérrez, with whom it took the first steps in prayer, formation, friendship.

Subsequently, it had as counselor Brother Máximo del Pozo, who continued to accompany the group, with monthly meetings rotating around the homes of the members. It began to have a community life, to share Mass, to pray, sing, and follow Jesus in the style of Mary, our Good Mother. Finally, on 8 December 1997, the vow was made to transform the community into the first fraternity of theInstituto O’Higgins of Rancagua.

Since that date, the Fraternity has followed its way, always keeping in mind the 4 pillars which support it:

  • Prayer: At each monthly meeting we have, together with the holy Rosary, the reading of a text from the Bible and reflection.
  • Formation: Study of the texts which help us grow as persons, for example, the book “Water from the Rock”. Attendance at the annual meetings of the fraternities and the annual Retreat of the Fraternities.
  • Solidarity: Assistance once a month in the food kitchen of the parish of Los Lirios, a locality near Rancagua. Help in Homes for the Aged.
  • Fraternity: The passing of the years and living together has allowed all the members to know each other better, to tolerate differences, to accept fraternal correction, to open their hearts at times of joy and sadness.

The promise is renewed annually with the Eucharist and the established ceremony. In 2007, Brother Teófilo Paredes came to the fraternity as counsellor, and he has continued to enrich the group with his accessibility, wisdom and welcoming approach. The passage of time has left some gaps in the journey of the fraternity: some of those who started have withdrawn, others have joined, and some have gone to meet the Lord.
