Fraternity San Marcelino - Pasto

The canonisation of Marcellin Champagnat, on 19 April 1999 prompted the birth of this  fraternity, which took the name of our Founder.

In its beginnings, it consisted of 9 members under the guidance of Bro. Martín Ordúz. All were teachers in the Instituto Champagnat of Pasto, with a mother of one of the members. In the course of 10 years, some persons decided to withdraw, but others were attracted by the life witness of the members, who mostly remained faithful to the charism which inspired us.

At present, it consists of 14 persons: Patricia Arboleda Bravo, Jenny Coral Delgado, Liliana Pabón Osejo, Dora Londoño Enríquez, Ana Lucía Vallejo, Jenny Narváez, Lidia Cerón, Milena Mejía, Yolanda Rosero, Myriam Esparza, Cristian Quintero, José Antonio Pachajoa and Teresa Hernández A. A few other new teachers have asked to join, and have been told that when they know our spirituality better and have a taste for it they can enlarge the tent.

The fraternity among us is enriched by our concern for the other. With the brothers we have special times when we share the work and mission of MAKING JESUS KNOWN AND LOVED by the children and young people. Each year Brothers and laity celebrate the feast of  Champagnat together.

We meet each month for formation, and for solidarity when we have to program meetings with the children and mothers of theNiño Jesús de Praga district. Our solidarity project began in the el Progreso District, COMPARTIMOS 4, with the children and people of the sector. We organized housing for 12 families who now, thanks to God, have their own homes in Juan Pablo II. We continue accompanying these families.

We are also working with the solidarity project of the Instituto Champagnat of Pasto in formation and handcraft workshops, with the mothers’ centre, in the district of Niño Jesús de Praga, with the object of setting up micro-enterprises, to counteract the reliance on illegal means of support.

We take part in the regional and local meetings of the fraternities and lay groups. Thanks to the patronage of the community of Marist Brothers and the Lay Formation Team, co-ordinated by Claudia Rojas, we have also received innumerable Marist particulars. May Jesus, the Good Mother and Champagnat reward them.
