Robyn Young FMSI volunteer

04/03/2012: Switzerland

Robyn is a young Australian woman, former student of “Marist Sion College” in Warragul. At present she is studying at the Latrobe University in Melbourne for two university degrees and following courses in law and humanities (specialising in international politics and development). Her preference is for law, especially the study of Human Rights. With these studies, her interest in studying Human Rights and to know more about the UNO, its international treaties, various mechanisms and functioning, she has decided to undertake an adventure and a long voyage to better understand these practical subjects relating to the United Nations in the best place to study them. Thus she has landed in Geneva to stay for February and March to carry out an internship experience with FMSI.

In the Foundation she is working for the reports that will be submitted during the next Universal Period Review (UPR) session. She is also collecting data about the Marist NGOs working worldwide in order to get an overview and establish a first contact with them.

Her collaboration with FMSI will allow her to learn, above all, the mechanisms for review used by the Council of Human Rights, principally the Periodic Universal Exam and other mechanisms of the treaty organizations such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention against all forms of Discrimination of Women.

Robyn has worked as a volunteer in Australia in a NGO called “Oaktree Foundation”, whose  principal objective is development.

We wish Robyn a pleasant stay among us which will help her have a better understanding of international politics and treaties, and the fulfilment of her desire to work in an NGO, defending Human Rights and, especially, those of children before the United Nations.
