5th Cycle of IEM Coffee Talks

10/05/2015: Spain

This year, the Institute of Marist Studies (IEM) of Salamanca organised the5th Cycle of IEM Coffee Talks. To follow the lines of the last course, which meant going around the different communities of the “Compostela” Marist Province, it was done in León with the hope that the “San José” and “Champagnat” Schools could participate.

This year’s topic was “New Marists in Mission!” – the theme of the “II Marist International Mission Assembly.”

Since several Brothers of the Province work or have worked in different missions, the following subjects were developed:

  • Mission in Vietnam - Br Antonio Sánchez Lozano. Former student of Magisterio Luis Vives of the UPSA. Cooperating in Vietnam.
  • Life and mission in Central America - Br José Antonio Baños. Marist missionary in Central America.
  • Marist mission in Asian countries - Br Teófilo Minga. Ad Gentes Project (Asian countries) of the Marist Congregation.

These subjects, which the Brothers have worked out, have been very positive since they have brought the reality of the areas of mission closer to our daily reality.

It helped the laity that took part in the different conferences discover more the work of the Marists in those areas of mission and understand what they do there through the Brothers themselves, who spoke about their experiences.

Brothers of the communities of the Champagnat and San José Schools participated, as well as the young brothers, former students, teachers and members of the Marist Fraternities of the city of León and sympathizers with the Marist charism.
