East Asia Province holds 4th Provincial Chapter

11/08/2016: Philippines

The Marist Brothers of East Asia Province had their 4th Provincial Chapter on August 4 – 7, 2016 in Marist School, Marikina City, Philippines, with the theme, “Towards a new beginning, as mystics and prophets in communion.”

There were 28 elected delegates, 17 coming from Philippine Sector, 6 from China Sector and 5 from Korea-Japan Sector.  Br. Michael de Waas, General Councilor, was also present, as well as 5 observers, 1 translator, and 5 members of the secretariat.  The scholastics animated the liturgies and the Marikina and MAPAC (Marist Asia Pacific Center) joined in the celebration of the daily Eucharist.

Br. Peter Rodney, the rector of MAPAC, was invited to facilitate the said gathering.

On the third day, the delegates elected 4 Provincial Councilors (instead of 6 as in the previous term). They are Br. Lindley Sionosa (re-elected) of the Philippine Sector, Br. John Chin (re-elected) of the China Sector, Br. Domingo Lee (re-elected) of the Korea-Japan Sector and Br. Dominador Santiago (new) of the Philippine Sector.

Br. Robert Teoh was re-appointed in February as Provincial for a second term.

The East Asia Province has a total of 115 Brothers, 70 of these are from Philippine Sector, 23 are from China Sector and 22 from Korea-Japan Sector.
