Madagascar’s new provincial superior

19/06/2017: Madagascar

The General Council has appointed Brother Michel Maminiaina Razafimandimby as the new provincial superior of Madagascar for a three-year term.

Br Michel will begin his mandate during the provincial chapter, from 26 to 30 December 2017.

“I thank Brother Michel for his openness and his readiness to serve the Institute in his mission as Provincial,” said superior general Brother Emili Turú, in a letter to the Brothers of the Madagascar province dated May 16.

“My sincere thanks go also to Br Sylvain Ramandimbiarisoa, who during the past four years has given the best of himself in the animation and the government of the Province,” he continued.

Born in Antsirabe, Madagascar on July 30, 1977, he is the third of a family of five children. He attended St. Joseph’s College in Antsirabe, a Marist school, and after graduating from high school, he entered the postulancy of Ampahidrano, Fianarantsoa in 1995. After two years of training at the Novitiate of Obala in Cameroon, he made his first vows on June 26, 1998. He then continued his formation at the Marist International Center in Nairobi, Kenya, from 1998 to 2002.

Back in Madagascar, he served as prefect of studies and teacher for three years. He made his perpetual profession on August 14, 2005 in Antsirabe, and then lived at the Marist community in Laval in Quebec, Canada, from 2005 – 2009, and then in Willowdale. He completed one year of immersion at the IFHIM (Institut de Formation Humaine Intégrale de Montréal) from 2005 – 2006, and obtained a Master's degree in Education from Université de Montréal in 2009.

After returning to Madagascar, Br Michel served as community leader, bursar, teacher and school principal. He is a member of the Provincial Council of Madagascar and serves as Vice-Provincial. Since 2012, he has been the director of the Saint Joseph College of Antsirabe.
