75 years of Marist Presence and jubilees religious life in Malawi

On 9th October Brother Denis Ntacyica celebrated his Golden Jubilee while Brothers Frank Mwambucha and Boniface Chirambo celebrated their Silver Jubilee at Marist Secondary school in Mtendere, Dedza, in Malawi. In addition, on this very day, Marist Brothers were marking 75 years of the Marist Brothers presence in Malawi.

Unity in diversity works among Marist Brothers: Brother Denis Ntacyica is from Rwanda (Province of East Central Africa). Brothers Boniface Chirambo and Frank Mwambucha come from Malawi (Southern Africa).

The main celebrant was Bishop Peter Adrian Chifukwa. Brother Norbert Mwira, the Provincial of Southern Africa was there. The Provincial Sister Mercy Mwira too was in the audience.

Diverse beneficiaries who passed through our institutions were present and spoke well about our presence. The Bishop also appreciated the works Marist Brothers are doing in Malawi. He encourages the Marists of Champagnat to remain faithful to the work they do and that they must also reach out to the poor.

The Marists thank God for being with them and thank the Marist Brothers from Canada for coming to introduce the Marist Brothers way of life in Malawi. With God’s help and Mary’s intercession they hope to continue serving the country and the church through evangelization through education.

Marist Brothers apostolate in Malawi

The Brothers were invited to Malawi from Zimbabwe by the then Bishop of the Lilongwe Diocese, Bishop Fady, back in 1946. Since then, they have been working in schools and Teacher Training colleges.
Nowadays there are in the country seven Marist communities and one group of lay Marist.
