2021-09-23 GENERAL HOUSE

Awakening an ecological conscience within us and around us

“Let us pray and work for our common home in these times of grave planetary crisis” Pope Francis has asked at the beginning of the 2021 Season of Creation, which runs from 1 September to 4 October, with the theme ‘A home for all? Renewing God’s Oikos’.

In line with the Pope’s call, Br Ernesto Sanchez, Superior General, also speaks about the care of our common home in his circular Homes of Light. We care for life and generate new life: “To care for our common home, we all have to become ecologically literate and review our consumption habits. We must develop an ethic of care (…) Let us imagine how this theme of ecology and care for our common home could be considered in important decisions regarding structures, constructions, use of resources… and above all the positive influence we could have on so many people, families, children and young people who, in their daily decisions, are transforming the world. To this end, we will try to make this theme of formation in ecology effective, using our educational and pastoral structures”.

The fifth call of the XXII General Chapter of the Marist Brothers also invites us to “Awaken with in us and around us an ecological awareness that commits us to care for our common home”.

The Time of Creation is the annual celebration of prayer and action for our common home. Together, the ecumenical family around the world joins together to pray for and protect God’s creation. Join the Season of Creation to participate in events or share resources that enrich the experience of the ecological season.
