Being a brother today: a story of grace

Ten congregations, who form part of the group “Tutti Fratelli,” or “All Brothers”, met at the general house of the Marist Brothers on March 14 to reflect on a document published in recent months by the Vatican on the identity of brothers within the Church.

According to Brother Hipólito Pérez of the Brothers Today Secretariat, the aim was to “to keep walking and growing in the search and implementation of initiatives that will help us to continue streamlining our being brothers in the Church and in the world.”

Participants included two Combonians, two Christian Brothers (of Edmund Rice), two Marist Brothers, two Lasallians, a Gabrielite Brother, a Brother of Charity, a Brother of the Sacred Family, a Brother of Saint John of God, a La Mennais Brother and a Brother of the Sacred Heart.

They had an in depth discussion of the Vatican’s recent new document titled ‘Identity and mission of the religious brother in the church,’ published by the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life on Dec. 14 last year.

Br Hipólito affirmed that the brothers also reflected on “the development of itineraries of experiences and resources that help its knowledge and internalization.”
