Br. Maximo Blanco appointed Provincial of Compostela

Br. Ernesto Sánchez, Superior General, with his Council, after studying the consultation carried out with the confreres of the Province, has decided to appoint Br. Maximo Blanco Morán Provincial of Compostela for a first term of three years, beginning on December 27.

In his letter of October 18, Br. Ernesto thanked Brother Maximo for his readiness and generosity in accepting the service of provincial leadership, adding: “your journey as a brother, your service in various areas of provincial animation in recent years, currently as vice provincial, your organizational and planning skills, your participation in the XXII General Chapter… all of this will be of great help to you in this new mission in the Institute”.

Br. Maximo takes over from Br. Tomás Briongos Rica, provincial since 2015. “Thank you, Tomás!” says Br. Ernesto in the letter. “As leader you have made yourself available to all and had a listening ear, always open to accompany the multiple realities of Marists in Spain, Portugal and Honduras, especially in these difficult times.” He also thanked the Council and province teams.

The term of office of Br. Maximo, as mentioned above, will begin during the celebration of the next Provincial Chapter, which will be held from December 27-30, 2021.

Br. Maximo Blanco

Br. Maximo was born in Palacios de Fontecha (León), Spain, in 1962. He entered the Marists in the Juniorate in León and then continued through the different stages of formation in Tui, Coruña and Roxos (Santiago de Compostela). He made his first profession in 1981 and his perpetual profession in 1987 in León.

He did a degree in Hispanic Philology at the University of Santiago de Compostela and a Diploma in Social Education at the Pontifical University of Salamanca.

His first years of educational mission were spent in the field of protection of minors: in the Santiago Apostle Center in Santa Cruz (Coruña) and in the Volvoreta Home in Coruña.

He has had mission experience in Honduras: in Work Camps, the province link for the NGO SED, rector and teacher of La Inmaculada of Comayagua Institute, Honduras; involved in health projects, rural development…

In the field of secondary education he has been a teacher in Coruña, Salamanca, teacher and principal of the San José de León College and rector and teacher in Comayagua-Honduras.

He has had experience as a formator of Postulants in Coruña and Salamanca and of novices in Roxos-Santiago de Compostela.

He coordinated the ministries of Compostela Province as head of the Mission Council.

He has collaborated with other educational organizations as president of Cahtolic Schools of Castilla and León and as president of the EDUCERE Foundation.

At present, he is a member of the Provincial Council and is serving as Vice-Provincial and on a day-to-day basis as Director General of La Inmaculada Marist College in Valladolid.
