Brazilian universities promote a Congress on key themes of Pope Francis’ Pontificate

Seventeen Catholic institutions of Higher Education in Brazil, among them PUC Paraná and PUC Rio Grande do Sul, Marist Universities, will hold between the 3rd and 5th of November the Oikos Congress, an online event that proposes reflection on action relating to four emerging themes of the pontificate of Pope Francis: Education, Economy, Ecology and Ecumenism.

The Congress is supported by the National Association of Catholic Education of Brazil and the Conference of Bishops (CNBB), as well as the sponsorship of FTD Educação and International Papers.

The event aims to

  • Provide an opportunity for dialogue between Brazilian Catholic HEIs, the Church and civil society around the emerging themes of Francis’ pontificate.
  • To promote exchange between students, researchers and professionals from different areas of knowledge.
  • Encourage interdisciplinary debate on Education, Economics, Ecology and Ecumenism.
  • Encourage scientific research on the themes of the event.

Several internationally renowned intellectuals make up the conferences of the congress:

  • Francis’ Economy with Dr. Alessandra Smerilli, Secretary of the Dicastery for the Promotion of Integral Human Development (Vatican).
  • Ecumenism with Prof. Dr. Marcial Maçaneiro, professor at the PUCPR and theologian of the Vatican Commission for Catholic-Pentecostal Dialogue (Brazil).
  • Global Pact for Education with Prof. Dr. Gerald M. Cattaro, consultant to the Vatican Congregation for Catholic Education and professor at Fordham University (USA).
  • Integral Ecology with Dr. Tebaldo Vinciguerra, consultant to the Dicastery for the Promotion of Integral Human Development (Vatican).

In the perspective of taking up the themes as areas of strategic and co-operative action between Brazilian institutions of higher education, the Oikos congress opens the area for the presentation of papers in the format of extended abstracts, for which the call for papers is open.

Marist Brothers and Lay Marists are exempt from the registration fee by using the promotional code ISENCAOOIKOSS2021 (valid until 8/10/2021).
