Brothers and lay people from Norandina participate in the Marist Vocational Forum

150 brothers and lay people from the Norandina province participated in the Marist Vocational Forum, which was held in Bogotá, from June 27 to 29, with the title: Gift and Challenge. Also participating were Brother Ernesto Sánchez, Superior General, Manuel Gómez and Raúl Amaya, directors of the Institute’s Secretariat of Laity.

On the first day, Br. Orlando Escobar, Provincial, greeted everyone in his opening message. For his part, Br. César Rojas Carvajal, coordinator of evangelization in Colombia, spoke about the meaning of living the forum around the Marist vocation, and introduced the first speaker, Sr. Marisol Franco, a sister of the Company of Mary, who focused her presentation on the topic of Human Vocation and the Church.

Subsequently, Raúl Amaya and Manuel Gómez addressed the issue of the Lay Marist Vocation. In the afternoon, the attendees met in communities of life to reflect on the phrase The spirit of the Lord is upon me. The first day concluded with the Eucharistic celebration.

The second day of the Marist Vocational Forum focused on the theme ”The Vocation of the brother and the Lay Marist”, led by Br. Daniel Martín, from the Province of Central America and Coordinator of Evangelization of the Arco Norte Region. Speaking about the Marist vocation, Br. Daniel said that being a brother is “a gift that we have to share with others”, and that the future of the charism “goes through sharing, not only what we do, but what we are”.  “I believe that we brothers have a task, that of recognizing the vocation of the lay person. Not only to recognize it, but to accompany it, to encourage it, because as I said before, it is also the laity who enrich and accompany our vocation and our journey”, explained Br. Daniel.

During the forum, there was a space for the participants, who, in communities of life, expressed their concerns, suggestions and thanks for the mission they carry out in the different works of the province. Likewise, there were testimonies of lay vocation.

On the last day of the forum, Br. Ernesto Sánchez Barba, Superior General, presented the paper entitled ‘Vocational Culture – Charismatic Family’, where he invited to continue transmitting the message of the vocational year in the care of Marist life.
