Centenary of the birth of Brother Basilio Rueda
This year marks the centenary of the birth of Brother Basilio Rueda, Servant of God, Superior General of the Marist Institute from 1967 to 1985. He was born in Acatlán de Juárez, Mexico, on October 16, 1924.
With a prophetic and charismatic leadership, Brother Basilio renewed Marist religious life in the light of the Second Vatican Council and was noted for his brilliant Circulars, read inside and outside the congregation. Because of his joyful and welcoming presence, in addition to the attention he devoted to community life and prayer, he is fondly remembered as the “Brother among brothers”.
The Marists of Mexico have created a page dedicated to this historic moment. The same has been done by the Region of América Sur.
