
Chapter of the Melanesia district
During the Chapter of the Melanesia district held from July 10 – 14 in Papua New Guinea, Brother Jean Marie Batick, officially began his second three-year term as district superior.
The new Council was also elected, which now includes Brothers Jean-Marie Batick, Brendan Sinei, Henry Unguni, Finan Valei and Sixtus Winduo.
Provincial superior and leader of the Marist Association of St Marcellin Champagnat, Brother Peter Carroll, took part in the assembly and Chapter held in a centre next to Port Moresby in Bomana.
“While there are challenges, the District also has significant strengths and opportunities,” he wrote in a newsletter for the Australia province dated July 18. “It’s on these that the Marists wish to consolidate and develop.”
Lay Marists and 15 Brothers of across the district took part. General councillor Brother Michael De Waas participated on behalf of the general administration.
