Commencing culture and attitude 2.0 in education

Boys and girls 2.0 are the ones we have in our classrooms and groups, the ones parents have in their homes. For these are the children born with the net, the use of computers,  remote control in hand and portable phone nearby. Expressions relating to these tools are common among them. They show intuition and interest in mathematical competitions. They are the generation 2.0.

Children and young people become movers in educational change following the appearance of computer and mathematical resources which revolutionize  communication. The Internet has become a necessary model and means for education, learning, leisure, research, communication, etc. From their earliest childhood, children use the Internet as an intuitive tool where game webs and appropriate stories provide stimulation according to their age.

The challenge and responsibility for parents and educators is to learn and to teach them to live and live with the net. Educators and schools in general display a certain fear and insecurity in the face of this new world, and maintain a prudent distance from this, sometimes, uncomfortable reality.

Analysis of this situation, the risks and insecurity access to the net poses for minors, necessary supervision and adequate controls, the distance educators and the school show in relation to the children, the updating and the necessary mindset to adopt in the face of the culture 2.0 and the changes in methodology necessary in education, such were the objectives sought on the occasion of these IInd Days, which were held on 7 and 8 April 2011 in  Salamanca, organized by the Institute of Marist Studies (IEM) and the Normal School Luis Vives of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the Pontifical University of Salamanca.

The CHILDREN 2.0 Days, under the sub-title « Commencing culture and attitude 2.0 in education », involved 270 enrolled and as many ‘virtual’ participants through  Internet, via streaming and twitter, among them educators, professionals, parents, students and other interested persons.

The Days were inaugurated by Mr. Marceliano Arranz, Rector of the University, and by Br. Antonio Giménez de Bagüés, Provincial of the « Mediterránea » Province, accompanied by other university authorities.

The  doyen of the Faculty of  Communication of the PUSA, Mr. Javier Nó, opened the Days by situating the initial reflection under the title Commencing culture 2.0. Such should be the attitude of the ‘presumed’ educator, who interacts in education with the  2.0 web tools.

He was followed by Mr. Sergio Fernández López, journalist and writer specialising in personal growth and leadership. His talk, « Living without fear to adapt to a changing world », inspired us to take up, with initiative and creativity, personal and professional challenges so as to be happy and to triumph.

src=../img/caricate/news/news_1987.jpgMr. Juan Carlos Gacitúa, professor of the University’s Faculty of Communication,  presented the range of « Web 2.0 and the social networks », for a better understanding of the possibilities and how to apply them in the field of education.

Towards the end of the day, the participants, guided by the experts, divided up into eight 2.0 workshops which took place simultaneously. They dealt with web services and applications, social networks, videoclip, wikis[1], blogs, mashups[2]and folksonomie[3]and ‘ numeric table’.

The following day, Mr. Roberto González Fontenla, formator and marketing consultant 2.0, gave a presentation on « Hacker for educators: protection of minors on the web ». The aim of his talk was to draw attention to the formation necessary for parents and educators to teach, especially to minors, use of the internet and the teams referring to it, in the application of regulations and filters, and in the knowledge of the laws, strategies and procedures for a safe navigation of the internet.

The last presentation  « TIC – TAC: ways of teaching versus forms of learning » was given by Mrs Carmen González Franco, teacher of secondary and senior classes in the Marist school of Salamanca, who recently received an award for her educational blogs. She showed how ways of teaching used by professionals have gradually changed and how it is necessary to learn and teach drawing profit from the new 2.0 tools, where the interaction and common activity of the members who benefit from it enhances and simplifies the acquisition of new learning.

The IInd Days, which have received the support ofEDELVIVES,took place in the main hall of the Normal School Luis Vives. The IEM is already thinking about and  programming the IIIrd Days for the next school year.

At the end of the Days those enrolled received from the IEM and the Normal School Luis Vives the corresponding certificate. One can have an echo of these Days through the blog http://jornadasninos20.blogspot.com/
