Cooperation program between Ministry of Education and Catholic Institute for Teacher Training

The Ministry of Education through the president of INFORDEPE, Domingos Martins together with the leaders of the Ministry of Education signed a cooperation program with the Rector of Catholic Institute for Teacher Training (ICFP) Brother Paul Gilchrist in the meeting room of the INFORDEPE presidency, Matadouro, Dili. The term of the cooperation program contract is a fundamental preparatory step for 400 candidate scholarship teachers to strengthen and contribute to professional education.

In this ceremony, President INFORDEPE Sr. Domingos Martins said, “This training course prepares teachers for scholarships that are integrated into the teaching career with the objective of opting for compulsory competencies related to the curriculum and tools for teaching and practice for school management”

In addition, ICFP Rector Brother Paul Gilchrist said, “I am very proud to work with INFORDEPE in this project, the government asked to exclude violence in the classroom so, we want teachers to learn behavior management strategy ‘which gives peace to children and keeps them away from violence. And we guarantee this training is a good experience for these new teachers”

The training course for candidate pocket teachers will start with 6 municipalities such as; Baucau, Bobonaro, Covalima, Dili, Lautem and Likisa with a total of 400 teachers and will be divided into two phases: the first phase total 213 teachers who will start training from 8 to 14/12/2024 and the second phase with a total of 187 teachers and will start training on 15 to 21/12/2024. This training will be held in Vila-Maria village, Rairobo District, Atabae Administrative Post, Bobonaro Municipality, for 5 days each phase.

The ICFP is a Marist center in Baucau, Timor Leste (Star of the Sea), that provides formation for future teachers.
