Diagnosis and Information about Childhood
The congress took place on April 12-14 in Curitiba, Parana (Brazil). The central theme was the system of vigilance for the right of children and adolescents in the State of Parana. Its first action was the launching of the book “Diagnosis and Information about Childhood: Sources of Information about Childhood and Adolescence”. The document was created having as its base the “Cade Brasil”, a project developed on the national level by the National Forum on the Rights of the Child and the Adolescent, and the Marist Social Help Institute. is edited by the Marist Solidarity Network, an initiative linked to the Marist Province of Brazil Centro Sur, and supported financially by the Institute of Solidarity of HSBC. FMSI was represented by Brothers Manuel Mendoza and Vicente Sossai Falchetto, members of the FMSI team in Geneva.
Brother Manuel Mendoza explained the history, activities, and actions of FMSI and the commitment that the Marist Institute has made to the neglected of society. This commitment is oriented to the right of education for all; education as a means of eliminating social injustices and promoting the rights of children, and adolescents and youth of all levels. Brother Manuel also spoke of the advances that the “Universal Periodic Review” is making on behalf of Human Rights. Brother Vicente Falchetto gave a general outline of the realities of children and adolescents, following upon the requirements of the Convention for Children’s Rights, and he insisted upon the importance of strengthening the system of control in order to better guarantee these rights.
This meeting counted on the outstanding presence of four adolescents, Erica Jacqueline Ribiero, Adila Luiz de Araujo, Mateo Rubens Fernandes de Oliveira and Emanuele Brendha de Araujo, students of the Marist Social School in the city of Curitiba, that participated in the putting together of the book that was presented.
FMSI is grateful for the invitation of the Marist Province of Brazil Centro-Sur, and we are united together, especially in this important work which is being done for the rights of children.
