Economic and Financial Administrative Guide of the Marist Brothers Institute
The General Council approved the Economic and Financial Administrative Guide of the Marist Brothers Institute in September 2024. This Guide addresses a set of policies and guidelines for the governing and management bodies of the different canonical and civil entities of Marist responsibility, based on Canon Law and Proper Law. This priority emerged from the XXII General Chapter, which established a guideline for the management and use of goods: “Developing administrative policies on human and financial resources, in keeping with ethical principles, at all levels of the Institute in the form of a Vade Mecum or Guide.” Based on this recommendation, the General Government promoted reflection and analysis at various levels of the Institute, through an ad hoc team linked to the Institute’s International Council on Economic Affairs.
Brother Ernesto Sanchez, Superior General, emphasizes in the presentation of the document that “when juridical structures are governed and managed professionally, transparently, and with commitment from both brothers and laypeople, they become a means of bringing the charism to life in diverse contexts, always aiming for viability and sustainability.”
Brother Jorge Gaio, Econome General, underlines that “this instrument establishes a set of policies and guidelines for the governing and management bodies of the Institute, at its different levels, which help to concretize the strategic elements contained in the law itself, in order to support the Marist life and mission”.
One of the Policies of the Administrative Guide refers to the model of financing for the Institute, approved “ad experimentum”. This policy deals with the contribution of the Administrative Units, as well as the strategy of creating restricted financial funds and voluntary donations aimed at developing projects with a view to economic and financial sustainability.
The General Bursar’s office will soon present an online launch schedule to which interested. Individuals and organizations in the Administrative Units will be invited.
