
General Council
What might be called the General Council’s “Spring” plenary session has finished and some appointments made can now be known. Some have already been communicated on the site. Now we offer a general account.
In December, Br. José M. Custodi took up service as district superior of Paraguay and in January 2011 Br. Joachim Ezetulugo as provincial of Nigeria. In May, Br. Bernard Beaudin will begin his second term as provincial of Canada, while in July, Br. Ken McDonald will commence his third term as superior of the District of Melanesia and Br. Antonio Peralta his second term as provincial of Santa María de los Andes.
From the experience of the road already travelled by FMSI, the Council decided to appoint Br. Michael de Waas as President of the Foundation, with Brs Jim Jolley and Mario Meuti as Directors of the Geneva and Rome offices respectively. Br. Mario is currently Director of the Collegio San Leone Magno in Rome, and will join the General Administration in September.
As members of the Enlarged Bureau of Laity, the General Council has appointed the following persons: Mrs. Agnes Reyes (Philippines, Sector AMAG); Mr. Fabiano Incerti (Brasil Centro Sul); Mr. Raúl Amaya (Cono Sur) and Br. Sylvain Ramandimbiarisoa (Madagascar), who join the two co-directors, Mrs. Ana Sarrate (Ibérica) and Mr. Tony Clarke (Sydney) and its director, Br. Javier Espinosa.
Seeing that in April the printing in Brasil (editora FTD) of the reference document for the Institute on Marist Youth Ministry, “Evangelizers of Youth” will be finalised, an “ad hoc” International Team has been set up with the task of preparing a plan for the implementation of the document and preparing the formation necessary for it. The members of this team, under the co-ordination of Br. João Carlos do Prado, Director of the Mission Bureau, are: Mr. Carlos Ulises Centero López (México Central); Br. Luiz André da Silva Pereira (Brasil Centro Norte); Br. Ramon Rúbies (L’Hermitage); Br. Rommel Ocasiones (Philippines); Br. Ifeanyi Mbaegbu (Nigeria); Mrs. Simone Boyd (Melbourne).
Br. Joe Mc Kee will be the representative of the General Administration on the “Co-ordinating Team” with the province of the Hermitage for all that refers to our Marist places of origin. Together with Brs Víctor Preciado and Antoine Kazindu, he will also form part, on behalf of the General Administration, of the team following up the Project for the Renewal of the Marist places. As for the accompaniment of the international community of the Hermitage, the General Administration will be represented by two persons: Br. Javier Espinosa, who has been doing this already for several months, and another yet to be named.
With relation to the personnel of the General Administration, Br. Aloisio Kuhn has renewed his contract as Portuguese translator for a further year, to the end of February 2012.
