Global Marist Solidarity: A Lifeline for Lebanon Amid Crisis
The humanitarian crisis in Lebanon remains severe, but thanks to your unwavering support, the Marist International Solidarity Foundation (FMSI) fundraising campaign are making a tangible impact. Organized in cooperation with the De La Salle Foundation, the Fratelli Council, and in collaboration with the Mediterranean Province, the FMSI fundraising campaign has successfully raised €58,724.51. This remarkable achievement reflects generous contributions from the General Administration through the Global Marist Fund for Humanitarian Emergencies, the Province of USA, the District of Canada, Misean Cara, BICE, and numerous Marist and non-Marist donors. The mobilization of the Global Marist Family stands as a testament to the power of solidarity during these challenging times. Indeed, 100% of the funds received will go to the project.
The Global Marist Family Fund for Humanitarian Emergencies
This fund, established by the General Administration during its plenary session in June 2020, aims to respond to humanitarian crises by addressing basic needs such as food, potable water, health assistance, and shelter for Marist Missions affected by emergencies and natural disasters. From 2020 to 2024, 49 projects have been approved, with a total of €631,044 allocated across 30 countries, demonstrating the reach and impact of this initiative. More information here.
The Current Situation in Lebanon
Despite tentative signs that the ceasefire may hold, Lebanon remains devastated. Over 3,800 people, many of them civilians, have tragically lost their lives, and 1.2 million people have been displaced, forced to abandon their homes in search of safety. With damages estimated at $8.5 billion, including the destruction of 100,000 homes, the country faces an enormous task of rebuilding. Amid this turmoil, the Fratelli Center has resumed operations, becoming a critical lifeline for families in need. Thanks to your contributions, the center provides not just aid but also hope and resilience to communities struggling to recover.
Impact of the Fundraising Campaign
Your generosity has enabled the Fratelli Project to provide critical assistance to more than 2,000 families, delivering:
- Mattresses, blankets, and pillows to bring comfort and rest to displaced families.
- Food and hygiene supplies to meet essential needs with dignity.
- Vital medications to protect health and support recovery.
By November 2024, the Fratelli Project has supported 4,644 individuals, distributing:
- 1,554 mattresses
- 849 food packs
- 990 blankets
These numbers reflect lives touched, families supported, and communities strengthened by the power of collective action.
