II Days of the Marist Educator

Nearly 300 teachers gathered in Cartagena, Spain, on Oct. 21 to compete their new pedagogical projects at the La Valla awards and reflect on key teaching competencies.

The teachers, gathered in the Marist school La Sagrada Familia, came from Extremadura, Andalusia, Murcia and Valencia – all part of the Mediterránea province.

One of the guest speakers was Javier Manuel Valle López, a professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, who spoke about the Education Act in Spain possibly being reformed.

“We have good examples of quality and innovative education within the Marist province of Mediterránea,” said Bartolomé Gil, the Marist delegate of education, on the province’s website.

During the conference II Days of the Marist Educator, nursery, primary, secondary and baccalaureate teachers also presented their innovative pedagogical projects to compete in the La Valla Awards, which the Institute gives to effective, innovative and creative educational work.

There were 52 projects of different levels of education from nearly 15 schools, which were judged by the education team, the innovation commission and the Council of Marist Educational Works (COEM).

The projects included topics such as the learning process, the integration of families into teaching, the collaboration of students from other courses and the creativity of students.

Other topics addressed the application of different methodologies, the development of coexistence and integration in classrooms and the use of new tools in classes.

In the category of nursery and primary, the winners were the projects ‘Jugando se aprende a convivir’ (Cartagena) and ‘The pirate pursuit’ (Murcia); while in ESO-bachillerato, the winners were ‘Maristas Space Balloon’ (Valencia) and ‘Cosmética natural como respuesta al cambio climático’ (Seville).

The second day of the II Days of the Marist Educator will be on November 4.
