III Meeting of Formation and Experience – Inter-American Network of Marist Spirituality

The Inter-American Network of Marist Spirituality proposed, for 2021, to promote and animate a project of formation and experiences. This project is developed through monthly meetings alternating themes of formation and sharing of experiences.

In March, the first meeting was held with leaders of provincial spirituality animation teams. In this meeting, the project in question was presented as a proposal of the animating team of the Network. Joseph Maria Soteras, who shared his wisdom on the first theme, Schekinah: The Presence of God.

And on May 26, the third meeting of formation and experiences took place with the theme: Projects for the Cultivation of Interiority in the Schools. Gerardo Acastello, from the Cruz del Sur Province, was invited to share his wisdom on the subject.

Gerardo’s contribution was significant, since he emphasized the importance of the development of interiority for children, adolescents, and youth; in generating a culture, and at the same time, providing space to meet with oneself, with God and with others for a healthy and sacred relationship.

Without remaining in the theoretical framework, he presented some exercises and some ways to apply them in schools. In addition, in two sessions he led the participants to practice meditation and prayer exercises with an interiority perspective.

Experiences of interiority projects

In a second session of the meeting, four experiences of interiority projects in schools were shared: Culture of Interiority Journey for elementary schools (Central Mexico), presented by AndrĂ©s Caracaño; Project Em Ti – Interiority Education (Centro Norte) presented by Lucilia Dias Furtado; School Interiority Journey (Cruz del Sur), presented by Rita GarcĂa and Interiority Education Project at Liceo San Luis, El Salvador (Central America), presented by MarĂa Teresa Archila.

The experiences shared were rich and motivate us to generate paths, processes, and favourable and trans-disciplinary forums in our Marist schools. This is a key theme in the mission and the 22nd General Chapter emphasizes it in one of its calls: “To grow in interiority in order to discover you as a God of love who manifests himself in the most ordinary of our lives”.

Next meeting – June 16

The itinerary of the project continues, and the next meeting is planned for June 16 with the presence of Brother Manuel Mesonero Sánchez who will share the theme “The Spirituality of Marcellin and the first Brothers”.

The Inter-American Network of Marist Spirituality, with its animation team, thanks all those who are contributing and participating in this new process of animation of Marist Spirituality.
