Instituto Católico para a Formação de Professores

The Ministry of Education of East Timor has granted the Instituto Católico para a Formação de Professores in Baucau, East Timor, permission to offer a fourth year of formation, an equivalent of a Bachelor of Education.

This course will first be offered to past graduates, consisting of specialist teaching units for mathematics, science, English or Portuguese, a research methods unit and a three-month internship for an action research project. The internship will be at the school where they are currently employed or a school where they can volunteer to teach during this time.

The ICFP is hoping to commence the course as soon as the details of the programme are finalised.

When they finish the fourth year, graduates will be qualified to teach in schools from years one to nine.

“Good teachers make a difference to the lives of their students, families and society,” said the director, Brother Peter Corr, who thanked the Institute’s partners for having helped improve the quality of education in the country’s schools.
