Liceo Coatepeque (Coatepeque, Guatemala)
Liceo Coatepeque was in fiesta mode on June 8. Eucharist was celebrated at 9:00 a.m., presided by the Archbishop of the Diocese of Los Altos, Mons. Mario Alberto Molina, who had happily accepted the invitation of Br. Alfredo Lobato del Blanco, director of the school, to celebrate the 50th anniversary Mass, with our whole school community, invited guests and other people related to the Marist institution.
The Eucharist was presided by the bishop and by the two priests of the parish of St. James the Apostle in Coatepeque. The gymnasium, where the Mass was celebrated, was filled to overflowing with all the invited guests, including Marist Brothers who had traveled from El Salvador and from Guatemala City.
Also present at the Mass were Mayor Emilio Maldonado, and the municipal council. At the conclusion of the Eucharist, the mayor and his council offered Liceo Coatepeque the highest municipal honor, "The Golden Gardenia", which was graciously accepted by Br. Alfredo Lobato. Afterwards the guests enjoyed a family snack. Everyone was very pleased and grateful for the fifty years of Marist education at Liceo Coatepeque.
The invited Brothers spent the night with the Marist community to attend, the next day, the fiesta with all the former students of Liceo Coatepeque.
