Letters of Marcellin – 101

Marcellin Champagnat

The change of parish priest in La Côte-St-André had occurred in February. We do not know why Father Champagnat had not gone to see the new parish priest before leaving La Côte, to tell him in person about the arrangement he had made with Fr. Douillet. In any case, we should certainly not look for some hidden strategy on his part.

Dear Father,

Your lively interest in your establishment in La Côte-St-André, and the welcome you gave me during the brief visit I had the honor to pay you, oblige me to inform you of what we have decided with Fr. Douillet.

We agreed to wait for the visit of His Lordship the bishop to La Côte-St-André, and to leave things as they are, provided still that Sister Marthe be dismissed. I hope that everything will work out to the satisfaction of your worthy prelate and for the glory of God, which we desire above all.

Please accept the assurance of the respect….
