Marcellin celebrated in the Pacific
On Monday 6th June the Brothers and Champagnat Lay Marists culminated the Champagnat Day celebrations with a mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, in Suva, Fiji, to which former students of all the schools the Brothers had taught in were invited. Archbishop Peter Loy Chong celebrated the mass, during which the Bicentenary of the Marist Brothers was also launched. Following the mass there was a gathering in the crypt, where Br Kees van der Weert gave a presentation on the work of the Brothers in Fiji since 1888.
Prior to this gathering, the schools had each marked Champagnat week with varied events, leading up to a mass on the Friday. On Sunday afternoon the Champagnat Lay Marists gathered at the Marcellin Centre for prayer, a time of socializing and a pot luck lunch.
Br Luke Fong and Mr Inoke Malani prepared and coordinated the celebrations.
