Marist Asian Youth Meeting Experience

From 10 to 12 August, the days preceding the visit of the Pope to South Korean, was held the Meeting of the Marist Youth of Asia. Two months after the event, we have received this account from one of the participants, a Marist postulant from a country of Asia belonging to the District of Asia.

When coming to Korea, I was so excited and nervous that I wasn’t sure what to expect at the MAYM. After a brief three days on the programme I can safely say that I have learned more, much more. The MAYM has been such a huge insight for me personally as well as for all the participants from Hong Kong, Japan and the Philippines.

I can’t talk about my learning experience without mentioning the Brothers who were in charge of this event, helping us to work together and being like friends through the activities. Furthermore, the Marist Asian Groups made this meeting all the more interesting, because we often talked about each other’s cultures and countries. We treated each other like lifelong friends, swapping stories, sharing opinions, laughing together, playing together and enjoying everything. I found myself with so much energy every day and continually wanting to talk, to play and to discover how to “keep my heart young always”. I don’t think I realized just how much everyone was going to get attached here.

Another factor, which warmed my heart, was the hospitality of the Brothers and people who were in the community we visited, and the food was exotic, especially Kim Chi.

Overall I think it’s clear to see that I’ve had an overwhelmingly positive experience here in Korea. After this meeting it’s so hard to say goodbye to this lovely place but I think we will meet again. MAYM 2014, you have been unforgettable!
