Marist Learning Zone participates in Jarara Reconciliation Day
One of the International Communities for a new beginning (Project Lavalla200>) is in Mount Druitt, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. Its member are Argelia Hernández Mendoza, Rodrigo Gris Castro, Br Jonnel Sisneros and Br Lawrie McCane. The main work of the community is with the Marist Learning Zone (MZL).
MLZ is a cooperative learning program partnership between Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta (CEDP) and the Mount Druitt Lavalla200> community. MLZ is not a school but offers a temporary re-location for young people enrolled in a CEDP school who have disengaged from their education. It connects them back into their learning, building skills in communication, collaboration and general life readiness. It prepares young people to re-engage with learning in pathways that suit their needs. MLZ is offered at no cost to participants.
On 31st May, the Lavalla200> community and the students of the MZL joined the staff of the Jarara Indigenous Education Unit to participate in a Reconciliation Day, during the Australian Reconciliation Week, which had as theme "Don't keep history a mystery. Learn. Share. Grow".
Jarara Indigenous Education Unit interacts with Aboriginal students from across 55 primary and secondary schools. Jarara is an integral part of the system of Catholic schools in the Diocese of Parramatta and is dedicated to the education and pastoral care of Aboriginal students and their families.
