Marist Mission? New forms of evangelization

The Marist presence in the town of Chapecó, Brazil, has been very significant these recent years for the activities successfully concluded by the « Colégio Marista São Francisco », which this year celebrates the fifty years of its foundation, and by the « Centro Social Marista », which carries out social work throughout the western region of Santa Catarina.

The two organizations, in their particular circumstances, perform works directed towards the community, especially for the sake of children and young people, according to the Marist Constitutions (the document which directs the Marist Institute).

One of the activities, which deserves mention and has been carried out by the Centro Social Marista Chapecó, in collaboration with the local Church, is the « Rebu Evangélização », held on 25 July 2009 in the locality of São Carlos, near Chapecó. The « Rebu » is the meeting which brings together a large number of persons with the objective of education through shows, exhibitions and reflection.

This « Rebu » intended to offer time for human and Christian formation for adolescents preparing to receive the sacrament of confirmation. The meeting developed in a way that was very dynamic and encouraged participation. More than 300 young people in the catechism programme were present.

It was one activity more, sign of our presence involved with our adolescents in their process of maturing in the faith and becoming aware of their vocation.
