Marist Pedagogy Seminar urges educators to serve with “compassion and love”
The Assistant Director of the Secretariat Brothers Today, Br. Lindley Halago Sionosa, addressed the topic “In the Footsteps of St. Marcellin: A Vision for Marist Education Today”, on July 24, during the Marist Pedagogy seminar at the Notre Dame of Marbel University – Integrated Basic Education Senior High School Department (NDMU – IBED SHS), in koronadal city, Philippines.
The Marist Pedagogy seminar aimed to strengthen the charism and virtues of St. Marcellin Champagnat among the faculty and staff of the the Marist institution.
In his online speech, Br. Lindley started by stressing that the goal of any Marist center of learning is to form good Christians and virtuous citizens, and emphasized the importance of showing compassion to learner: “To become a perfect teacher, aside from teaching our learners technicalities, we need to embody the character of being compassionate to grow in the experience of the Marist community,” he said, and added: “As part of the Marist world, our mission partners, like you, need to teach our learners with compassion because teaching in a Marist way means teaching with love.” He also emphasized the importance of teachers sitting beside learners to impart love and timeless truths that remain relevant both in St. Marcellin’s time and today.
In the closing message, Mrs. Welhilmina Tajo, MA, the Prefect of Discipline, highlighted the seminar’s unique nature, noting that teachers at NDMU-IBED are not just educators but Marist educators.
The Marist Pedagogy seminar is part of the in-service training provided by the institution for the faculty and staff of the SHS Department to begin the academic year 2024-2025.
