Mass of Thanksgiving in Auckland
Over 500 people attended a Mass of Thanksgiving at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Auckland on 25 March, the feast of the Annunciation of the Lord to celebrate the bicentenary of the foundation of the Institute.
Br David McDonald, the District Leader, emphasized the three elements of the bicentennial celebrations: gratitude, forgiveness and a new beginning.
The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Patrick Dunn and Bishop Stuart O’Connell SM.
The Brothers arrived in New Zealand with Bishop Pompallier in January 1838. Br Florentin Francon was stationed Auckland in 1844 and helped build St Patrick's cathedral which was completed in 1848.
