The Lycée Léonin Néa Smyrni school celebrated the feast of Saint Marcellin on June 10, in the context of the La Valla year and the Institute’s bicentenary.

A total of 627 people from the two communities of the Marist Brothers of Greece who are both Catholic and Orthodox, as well as members of the “Young Marists in Action,” staff, and representatives of various assocations, welcomed superior general Brother Emili Turú in an ecumenical spirit.

Br Emili had accepted an invitation to be accompanied by provincial vicar Brother Gabriel Villa Real, provincial councillor Brother Michel Morel, and Father Maximos, Secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in Greece.

In an ecumenical spirit, the two communities of Marist Brothers, both Catholic and Orthodox members, of the technical, educational and administrative staff of the Marist Educational and Social Works of Greece, the “young Marists in action”, the representatives of the associations (A total of 627 persons) welcomed the Superior General, Brother Emili Turú, who had accepted an invitation to be accompanied by the brothers Gabriel Villa Real, Provincial Vicar, Michel Morel, Provincial Councilor and Father Maximos, Secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in Greece.

All of them paid tribute to the memory of Saint Marcellin Champagnat.

In his brief address Brother Emili underlined, among other things, that “today's Marist Greece offers unity in diversity, following the model of the Trinity whose icon is seen on the walls of the schools I have just visited.”

Later, the Youth Symphonic Orchestra of Athens and the choir of the Lycée Léonin Néa Smyrni interpreted the “Champagnat” oratory, composed by a former pupil of the school, Nicolas Charikiopoulos, inspired by the spiritual testament of Marcellin.

The celebration concluded with the projection of a video on the Marist mission in the world today.

At the end of the afternoon, during a cocktail and in a friendly atmosphere, participants said that the new beginning on the threshold of the third century of the Institute offers new hope to children and young people around the world.
