Monastery of las Avellanas
During the weekend of February 27 to March 1, 29 representatives (lay and brother advisors) of the Marist Alumni Association (ADEMAR) of the Marist Provinces who Work in Spain met in the Monastery of las Avellanas (Lerida) in a meeting that was jointly organized by the ADEMAR Mediterranean Federation and the ADEMAR Catalonia Federation. The provinces of Compostela (Burgos), Mediterranean (Málaga, Jaén, Murcia, Alicante, Denia and Algemesí) and Hermitage (Badalona, Barcelona the Immaculate, Barcelona Sants-les Corts and Mataro) were present.
The meeting began on Friday afternoon and throughout the weekend there were moments to commemorate the Marist Brothers who are martyrs and also to discuss last year’s International Assembly of the Marist Mission in Nairobi (Kenya) with two videos of two concrete experiences of that time and then there was a moment of dialogue. The central theme of the meeting was the discussion of the future of our ADEMAR within the current framework of the Marist Institute, ahead of the bicentennial of its founding. The reflection began with the explanation of Br Emili of his three years of preparation for the bicentennial and the motivation that makes us all participate in this process, which was followed by a rich dialogue between alumni and the Marist Brother advisors on the future.
In the afternoon we reflected on the relationship of the different ADEMAR with three more concrete topics: Marist laity; voluntary and solidarity activities; and the need for training and Marist information on the Boards of the different ADEMAR.
The meeting ended on Sunday after taking part in the Eucharist in the Monastery of las Avellanas and all participants made their way back home.
