
New PUCRS administration for the 2025-2028 quadrennium
On January 12, the new board of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), of the Province Brasil Sul-Amazônia, took office for the 2025-2028 quadrennium. “Look at the past with gratitude, live the present with passion and embrace the future with hope,” were the words of Brother Manuir Mentges, the newly appointed rector of the University. At the same ceremony, Brother Marcelo Bonhemberger was sworn in as vice-rector.
The event was attended by the Cardinal and Chancellor of PUCRS, Monsignor Jaime Spengler, the Brother Provincial, Deivis Alexandre Fischer, University leaders, authorities, Marist Brothers, the academic community and family members of the new administration.
During the inauguration ceremony, guided by the words of Pope Francis, the new rector of PUCRS based his speech on these three purposes:
- gratitude for the past, thanking Brother Evilázio Teixeira for his inspiring 20 years as rector – 12 as vice-rector and eight as rector
- passion for the present, sharing with the academic community the enthusiasm for the opportunity to contribute to PUCRS’ history of excellence
- and hope for the future, emphasizing the importance of strategic planning 2023/2027 for building and maintaining a sustainable and visionary university.
Brother Manuir also stressed that the work of the new administration will be carried out in a transparent, collaborative and agile manner, focused on clear guidelines:
- Excellence on all fronts
- An inclusive, plural and creative university community
- People at the center of every experience
- Agile management committed to results
- Development vector for society
- Social, environmental and governance responsibility
- And a competitive and sustainable portfolio connected to the demands of our time.
