Our call as Marist educators

From 24-27 July 2011, the Marist Leadership Institute was held at the San Alfonso Retreat House in Long Branch, New Jersey. Over 50 Marist administrators and school leaders from our Marist schools in the states of New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Texas, Florida, Illinois, as well as school leaders and formators from Germany and Ireland, gathered to reflect on our call as Marist educators and to enjoy each others’ company. Brother Seán Sammon was the key note speaker who addressed the theme, The Identity and Characteristics of the Marist Leader. Other presentations and related topics included:

  • THE MARIAL FACE OF EDUCATION – Brother Richard Van Houten, (Director of Marist Education, USA)
  • A FOUR-YEAR MARIST HERITAGE CURRICULUM – Jeanne Burns (Central Catholic HS, Lawrence, MA)
  • OUR COMMON CALL: AN ONGOING PROCESS – Brother Seán Sammon & Brother Dan O’Riordan (Vocation Co-Director, Province of the USA)
  • A VISION OF THE FUTURE – Brother Ben Consigli, Provincial
  • ONGOING ADMINISTRATIVE FORMATION – A GROUP DISCUSSION

As part of the on-going formation programs within the Province, the Marist Leadership Institute is a professional, comprehensive formation program for leadership within Marist ministries throughout the Province of the United States. This program is designed to enhance the Marist formation of those who now exercise, or who will exercise, a leadership role in the educational ministries of the Marist Brothers of the Province of the United States.
