The felt happy and thankful to their donors for enabling them to join the millions of people worldwide who are heeding the advice of health experts to wear face masks, disinfect their hands and keep social distance to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

In a month from November 16, to December 16, 2020, Brother Anthony Siryeh successfully bought and distributed food and hygienic items to three hundred (300) poor students and sixty (60) members of staff of Sister Shirley Memorial Catholic School Barnesville Estate in Monrovia, Liberia to implement the project funded by the “Global Marist Family Fund for Humanitarian Emergencies” to assist them in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. From the distribution lists, it is obvious that the beneficiaries each received rice, oil, sardine, toilet tissues, disinfectants including deltols, clora and sanitizers, as well as soap. Brother Anthony feels happy and grateful to the General Council for providing the funds which enabled him to assist the Barnesville Estate local community in the fight against Covid-19.

Going through the pictures I observed that the beneficiaries neither wore face masks nor observe social distancing. I wondered why but then I noticed that this item was not in Anthony’s budget. However, in the COVID-19 context, where millions of people are heeding the advice of health experts to wear face masks and keep social distance, it is normal to expect people to wear masks and keep social distance in a gathering. In my email to Brother Anthony, I drew his attention to this and suggested to him to advice his students and teachers to take the wearing of face mask and social distancing seriously. I am glad to know that the implementation of the project went hitch free and that the beneficiaries felt relieved and thankful to the donors. I appreciate Brother Anthony’s effort in realizing the project within a short period of time.
