Province of Brasil Sul-Amazônia invests in sustainable energy

The Province of Brasil Sul-Amazônia is investing in sustainable energy with the construction of the Photovoltaic Plant “Champagnat I”. The project is characterized by a medium-size plant with solar plates installed on the ground that occupy an area of approximately 15,000m² in the Recanto Marista, in Porto Alegre.

One of the pillars of the project is to respond to the calls of the Church and of the XXII General Chapter of the Institute, which asks us to work towards an integral ecological conscience that is committed to the care of our common home.

An evolving experience

The initiative derives from the pilot project installed in 2020 at the Colégio Marista Graças, in Viamão. During its first year of operation, the plant with a capacity of 90 kWp supplied the school’s entire energy demand. In financial terms, approximately 19 thousand dollars were saved, in addition to credits with concessionaires that can be used in the future, when the energy demand is greater than the generated capacity.

With all the benefits for the environment and the production of sustainable energy, the Photovoltaic Plant “Champagnat I” will also be a space for study and research. The place will be available for guided visits, because, in addition to the operation of the solar energy panels, students and researchers will be able to have contact with a mini-meteorological station and charge controllers that recharge the batteries with solar energy.

Through this investment, the Marist Network, Province of Brasil Sul-Amazon, fulfills its mission of caring for life in all its aspects, including the preservation of the environment and promoting the formation of an ecologically conscious and sustainable society.
