On May 20, the anniversary of the birth of Saint Marcellin Champagnat, over a hundred brothers and lay people of the Province of Rio Grande do Sul, shared moments of reflection and construction of a new way of being Marist. They were gathered throughout the day at the Marist Social Center (CESMAR), in Porto Alegre, to carry out the provincial stage of the II International Marist Mission Assembly.
Together, representatives appointed by the communities, units, and fraternities consolidated a step towards Nairobi. The representative of the school, the educator Paula Grace Menna Barreto, attended the meeting, celebrating the results of local steps and knowing the brothers and lay people who represent the province in the international stage, in September, among them the former student Sophia Kath. Sophia said that “she was trying to find the words to describe the thrill of being part of the Marist group of representatives in the II International Marist Mission Assembly”.
The interaction with the audience was permeated with practical aspects of the challenges of the mission and highlighted the relationship between the young, brothers, lay people, and collaborators that somehow are connected to the Marist Institute. "One cannot think of the future Marist considering a separate perspective of the laity or of the brothers. Our challenge is to build a journey together", said Fabiano Incerti, Director of the Institute of Science and Faith (PUCPR).
