Province of Southern Africa
In 1999 the Brothers in South Africa took a very significant decision when they decided to establish the Marist Schools Council (MSC). This is a body of both Brothers and lay people charged by the Provincial Council with the responsibility of running the five Marist schools in South Africa. This followed on from an earlier significant decision taken in the 1970’s opening all promotional posts in our schools in South Africa to lay people.
Towards the end of 2014 the MSC decided to create new position in the MSC namely that of Director, a position to be filled by a lay person.
The work of the Director will be to take over the MSC work previously done by the member of the Provincial Council resident in South Africa. The new Director is Mr Mike Greeff, the current head of St David’s College in Johannesburg. Mike is currently also the Chairperson of the African Lay and Brothers Commission.
