Rooted in Christ Jesus for a new beginning

UMBRASIL celebrated the national seminar on consecrated life from June 4-7, with over 60 brothers and laity in Brazlândia from three Brazilian provinces and the Amazonia district.

Religious and laity sat around the same table to reflect and share thoughts on the Marist consecrated life during the four days of the encounter.

The meeting’s theme was “rooted in Christ Jesus for a new beginning.”

The seminar covered topics such as the religious in society, affection, sexuality and the relationship with the laity.

“We hope to be aware of the challenges and that the seminar’s discussions and debates are communicated to the communities of the brothers,” said brother James Pinheiro, of the Brasil Centro-Norte province.

Brother Emili Turú, the Institute’s superior, was present through a message in which he underscored that “it is not important now to ask ourselves who we are.” “It is essential that we ask ourselves what price we are willing to pay to be what we are called to be, and to be consistent with the invitation we have received,” he added.

UMBRASIL’s persident, brother Claudiano Tiecher, stressed at the closing that it was important that this seminar had been held the year in which the Church calls the world's attention on the subject.

“There is no room here for extremism, it is a place for sharing and equality,” remarked Br Claudiano.

“We must always move, surpassing the structures that surround us and that do not let us celebrate these moments of communion,” he added. “We must ensure that life develops without limits.”
