Second Provincial Chapter of West Africa

The Second Provincial Chapter of the Marist Province of West Africa took place from the 6th to the 9th of August 2024 in Babenga – Douala, Cameroon. The event was marked by the presence of Brothers Ernesto Sánchez (Superior General) and Kenneth McDonald (General Councilor) who offered their guidance and support. The Chapter was facilitated by Br. Albert Nzabonaliba.

The Chapter was also graced by the presence of Brothers Aureliano Garcia (Provincial of the Mediterranean Province), Br Juan Ignacio (Provincial Councilor of Mediterranean Province), and Br Manuel Jorques (former Provincial of Mediterranean Province), who journeyed with the Brothers throughout the process. Their presence added valuable insights and solidarity to the proceedings.

Three lay Marists (Koffi Romuald, Mbeng Francis, and Nyang Gladys) actively participated, contributing to the richness of the discussions and decisions.

During the Chapter, the following priorities were established to guide the Province over the next three years:

  • Sustainability for the Mission
  • Identity – Community Life – Fidelity – Spirituality
  • Vocation and Formation
  • Mission
  • Governance, Leadership and Animation

At the conclusion of the Chapter, Brothers Cho Nchang, Kramo Eric, Germain Beda, and Birkem Pascal were elected as Provincial Councilors to assist the Provincial, Br. Cyprian Bankakuu Gandeebo, in his second term as animator of the Province.

“The Chapter was a moment of grace and discernment. As we give thanks to God for leading us through this process, we pray that our Province will continue to grow and generate life in the spirit of Marist values” (Br. Cho Nchang Atzi–nwi).
