Sustaining and Transmitting our Marist Pedagogy
The Province of Nigeria had a two day workshop for Brothers working in school apostolate. The themes of the seminar were ‘Team Building in Schools’ and ‘Sustaining and Transmitting our Marist Pedagogy’.
The resource persons were Sr. Catherine Asomugha of the Holy Rosary Sisters, and Br. Vitus Osuji. The Sister highlighted the importance of working as a team in schools, while Br. Vitus emphasised the significance of maintaining and transmitting our Marist Pedagogy to students, staff, and parents of our schools.
Some recommendations for action reached at the seminar were:
* The need to bend our apostolate to suit Community program
* Improvement of infrastructure in our primary and secondary schools, particularly, laboratories, toilets, sporting facilities, as well as teaching and learning aids
* We need to consult more expert Brothers in their areas of specialization
* Encourage informal exchange among Brothers working in schools
* Schools academic and discipline should be strengthened
* Each school must draw its strategic plan with mission and vision statement each term.
* Categorise our schools into high and low fee paying
* Improve advertisement using print and electronic media
* We need to seek always the face of God and Our Lady in all our apostolic endeavours. For if the Lord does not build the house, in vain do its builders labour.
