The Marist University of Congo celebrates the opening of the academic year

The Marist University of Congo solemnly celebrated the Opening of the Academic Year 2024-2025 on January 14, 2025, in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo. The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Léonard Ndjadi Ndjate, Auxiliary Bishop and Vicar General of Kisangani.

The motto of the Marist University of Congo, established in 2012, is “Vera Scientia Lux Mundi Sit…” (True Knowledge May Be the Light of the World). The President of the Board of Directors of the university is Br. Edouard Nanga Luka, and the Chancellor is Br. Venceslas Baindekeli Beimoyato, Provincial of East Central Africa.

Among its specialties, the university has the faculties of Agronomy, Law, Economics, Communication Sciences and New Information Technologies, Psychology and Education Sciences, and Applied Sciences. The University operates thanks to the teaching and supervision of visiting professors, external collaborators and 6 permanent assistants.

In his homily, Bishop Leonard encouraged members of the university family to continue the educational work under the influence of the Holy Spirit, the principal artisan of all Inspiration. “With the grace of God, in an effort supported by personal responsibility, each professor and each student, through research and interaction, progressively becomes a craftsman of our academic, spiritual and moral formation, thanks to the Holy Spirit.” Bishop Leonard limited his exhortation to the following non-negotiable values:

  • Respect for the dignity of each person and of the Institution through dialogue and listening with a view to communion.
  • Unity and cohesion as the foundation and strength of the university family.
  • Learning based on honesty and transparency, combating and denouncing anti-values ​​such as plagiarism, corruption and attempted corruption, deception and fraud in all its forms.
  • Prayer as a supreme value that connects us with God and gives meaning to everything we are and do.

The Mass concluded with a solemn blessing of the jubilee in the presence of the legal representative of the Marist Brothers in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Br Rémy Mbolipasiko Dikala, the rector of the university, Justin Masandi Kisuku Lez, the honorary rector, the members of the Management Committee, the mayor of the city of Kisangani, the parish priest of the parish of Saint Camillo (represented by his vicar), the acting President of COSUMA, the pastoral agents of the archdiocese of Kisangani, the police authority (represented by Major Claude), the 8 members of the Marist Community in Kisangani, the administrative, academic and support staff, more than 400 students, the local press and members of the choir, as well as the protocol staff.
