Twenty-two brothers participate in the Marist Mentors program

The Marist Mentors program, dedicated to the accompaniment of young brothers and those in formation started on July 4 and will end on August 27. 22 Brothers from different provinces are following the course at the General House under the guidance of the coordinating team composed by Brothers Antonio Peralta, Xavi Barcelo and Michael Sexton plus Memo Rodriguez, a lay Marist from Mexico who is the translator.

The training responds to the need to give practical support to those Brothers who have the responsibility to mentor our young Brothers and has three main objectives:

  • To be a time for personal renewal to nourish the own spiritual life and Marist vocation.
  • To develop new insights and skills in the accompaniment of our young Brothers.
  • To share experiences, insights and questions with other Brothers who are entrusted with this privileged ministry.

Some of the topics covered are Biblical foundations for accompaniment (Br. Joseph Maria Soteras), Godly Play – My Sacred Story (Br. Jose Andres Sanchez), Adult developmental challenges / Safeguarding / Protocols (Br. Brendan Geary), The practice of accompaniment (Br. Antoine Kazindu, Guadalupe Hoyos), Accompaniment in the writings of Marcellin (Br. Patricio Pino). Speakers also include Brothers Ernesto Sanchez, members of the Ongoing Formation Team and Brothers Ángel and Lindley, directors of the Secretariat Brothers Today.

The “Mentors” program began online in 2021, with courses on spirituality, personal development and the world of young people. The present formation program builds on work done in that program, which was run by the Secretariat Brothers Today and the Community of Manziana.

Mentors program participants will be at the Hermitage from August 8-20. The Course will end formally in August 27, in Rome.
