Ukrainian refugees in the Marist community of Habay

A local official in Habay sent a message on March 5 to all families and communities that could receive Ukrainian refugees. After a discernment carried out in the community, the Marists agreed to make the small Maisonnette available and to respond to the request. Days later, on March 11, the community welcomed 9 people: three young mothers with four children, two of them very young, accompanied by two grandmothers.
Thanks to social networks, solidarity grew rapidly among people related to the community, who in a few hours donated cribs, baby strollers, clothes, personal hygiene items, toys, food, etc. There were even donations that were given to the Red Cross for other families in need.
In coordination with the local authorities and numerous lay Marist volunteers, the daily life of this great family is being organized: translations, the first administrative and medical procedures and the schooling of the two children in the city school. In community, with the Champagnat group and this family, we also pray for peace in Ukraine and in the world.
An experience that certainly requires energy and a careful presence, which demonstrates a great human richness.
